PADI IDC Staff Instructor
Staffing during an PADI IDC includes evaluation of the IDC candidates. This picture is during confined water. You also get to practice with classroom and open water presentations. Camille will take the time to provide feedback after each presentation.
As a PADI IDCS Instructor you will help raise the next generation of PADI professionals. First of all you gain in-depth instructor trainer knowledge. For example, as an IDCS Instructor you will be able to conduct independently the Assistant Instructor course. Furthermore you can present topics in the IDC. Consequently and most importantly you help shape PADI Divemasters and Assistant Instructors into PADI Open Water Instructors. Be part of that transition! It’s exciting!
In short, if you plan to teach PADI Divemasters then the IDC Staff Instructor course will give you much-needed knowledge and skills. In other words, these skills will help you create the Divemasters with their first step as a PADI Pro. Withe Staff Instructor rating, you will have more to offer as an Instructor.
First of all, you will be assisting our PADI Course Director
closely during a full IDC Program. Secondly, you learn how to score the candidates knowledge development. In addition, it’s similar for confined and open water presentations. Furthermore you will also learn how to counsel and motivate them. It’s a real challenge! But also lots of fun!
The IDC Staff instructor course is a rewarding course. Above all you are actively involved in all parts of the PADI IDC training. As a result you receive very valuable tips and techniques from our PADI Course Director. Most importantly, you experience firsthand the development process of new instructors.
Once you successfully complete the IDCS course, you can assist me with IDC programs. Or any other PADI Course Director for that matter. Your training to become a PADI IDC Staff Instructor will involve four modules:
- Reassessment of knowledge, water skills and teaching ability
- Orientation to PADI IDC policies, procedures and philosophy
- Training in the skills of objective evaluation
- Auditing a complete IDC Course.

What will you learn?
There is a pre-assessment of your instructor-level knowledge of dive theory. The dive theory exams. This is followed by exemplary dive skills and role-model presentation techniques. Get your skills and knowledge up to scratch again. Likewise you will participate in these sessions:
- Instructor development standards, procedures and curriculum
- How to organize and conduct the PADI Assistant Instructor course
- The psychology of evaluation and counseling
- Evaluating knowledge development, confined water and open water teaching presentations
- Plus, you’ll get to audit an IDC. Now you get to see the IDC from a different point of view. From the other side of the fence.
What are the components of the PADI IDC Staff Instructor course ?
Knowledge Assessment: An IDC Staff Instructor Candidate must demonstrate adequate knowledge of diving theory and PADI Systems. Likewise you must demonstrate standards and procedures. You do this by exhibiting acceptable performance on written examinations. You are required to obtain a 85% passing mark on a series of pre-assessment examinations. Both in theory and general standards exams. You will need to hit the study books again. On the other hand, it will be fun as well.
Watermanship Assessment: You are required to demonstrate mastery of the PADI Skill Evaluation Circuit. To obtain this mastery all skills need to be above a 3.0 and an average of a 4.0 or higher is required. Certainly a challenge you can master!
Teaching Assessment: An IDC Staff Instructor candidate
must demonstrate acceptable performance of an academic teaching presentation. You need to get a higher score compared to an IDC candidate.
Orientation: This involves orientation of the candidate to PADI IDC policies, procedures and philosophy. You follow a few presentations by your Course Director. It will be interesting and you will learn a few things.
Evaluation Training: During this module, you will learn how to objectively evaluate and give positive comments to PADI IDC candidate teaching presentations. Consistency in evaluation and critique along IDC Staff members is vital. This enables the IDC candidate to effectively develop teaching skills.
In other words, effective and consistent evaluation of candidate teaching presentations is the most important function of a Staff Instructor. To prepare you for this role, some preliminary training will take place. During the course, Camille will constantly check in with you to evaluate your evaluation skills. This will be a very valuable experience.
IDC Auditing: To sum it up, you will see from a staff perspective how a PADI IDC course is conducted. Likewise you will be able to see the development of the candidates’ abilities during the Program. In conclusion, you observe all IDC training segments, evaluation sessions and all aspects of staff organization. Camille really involves you in his IDC’s. You will get completely immersed.
